It’s no secret that festival season is also known as full-beat makeup season. But there’s nothing more heartbreaking than when all that hard work melts right off your face during all those fantastic acts at your favourite festival. But here’s how to avoid this with these 5 simple steps!
Setting spray before and after application
This method is not only going to keep what’s on top of your skin in place all day, it’s going to create another protective barrier on your skin. By applying this before your primer this will reduce oil flow, which is one of the reasons our makeup applications melt off. My go-to facial spray is the De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray by Urban Decay.
Dead skin cells, dirt, and grime are one of the main reasons why our makeup application doesn’t last! Make sure your skin is squeaky clean as well as hydrated before your makeup application. Cleanse your skin as well as exfoliate and hydrate an hour before makeup application.
Lay low on the foundation
A heavy amount of foundation will look incredibly caked mixed with sweat and oils. Instead, keep the base minimal but enhance those eyes and lips. Oh and of course don’t forget to make that highlight pop! Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean don’t use a heavy-duty stay all day foundation! My fave life proof foundation is the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation by Fenty Beauty! This is a medium-full coverage foundation, but a little goes a long way and it still looks remarkable when applied with a beauty sponge.
Avoid heavy cream-based moisturisers
Again, this is going to make the foundation slip and slide off. Heavy creams are a slippery texture and will sit on top of your skin rather than sink into the skin. Instead use something that’s water or gel based, such as the Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion by Dr Dennis Gross. This will keep your skin intensely hydrated throughout the day.
It’s no secret that a good ol’ liquid lippy stays in place all day long, but some of us festival goers don’t enjoy the feeling of a long lasting LL on our lips. To avoid that dry feeling on your lips, exfoliate them with a lip exfoliator to remove any dead skin cells. Before applying your lipstick, apply a hydrating lip balm. This will create moisture in the lips. After 5-10 minutes wear remove it with a tissue and apply your lipstick. Removing the balm won’t cause your lips to dry it, it will simply avoid your chosen liquid lip product to move around and slide off. My ride or die lip balm is by Carmex.
You also want a liquid lipstick that’s comfortable itself and will actually remain on your lips throughout the day without crumbling off! A perfect example is the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks. These bad boys will remain on your lips for hours and they’re incredibly comfortable. They also come in miniature sizes, which is absolutely festival-bag appropriate!

Now you’re good to go all day!
