If your Thursday night consists of slapping a thick layer (or two) of brown liquid over your body ’til you resemble a toasty lil’ marshmallow, you’ve probably got this under control.
If you are new to the whole fake tanning game, let us welcome you into our realm. Yep, we’re pro’s around here. We’ve seen our fair share of orange elbows and knees and aren’t afraid to admit we could have passed as an Oompa Loompa/Donald Trump back in the day. Luckily for you, we’ve moved past that stage in our lives (although the horrific photos still remain.) Don’t wanna end up like we did? Nobody does!
That’s why we’ve tried and tested the range of Bondi Sands on different skin tones, so you can quickly find the right one for you!
Bondi Sands Gradual Tanning Milk
Maddie: “I reviewed the Bondi Sands Gradual Tanning Milk for a week. I used the product 5 of those days and I got exactly what it describes – a gradual tan! Nothing crazy but a nice healthy glow. Great for in between fake tans or even to prolong the length of your tan. The product smells of cocoa butter and glides on nice and smoothly, it absorbs quickly into the skin. I wouldn’t say it’s highly moisturising but it does make my skin feel smooth after I have applied it and a little does go a long way!
Even though it is a gradual tan I would recommend washing your hands after using it, I didn’t do this on one occasion and although it didn’t stain I had that “fake tan” smell on the palms of my hands a couple of hours later. I naturally have fair skin with slightly yellow undertones and I was super happy with the results! A subtle healthy golden glow – it looked very natural! It does what it claims to do and as far as the product goes, in my opinion, I would rate it a 4/5.
I would love for the product to be a little bit thicker in consistency and to be a little more moisturising as it is quite thin. A small critique for an overall good product!”
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam Dark
Courtney: “I used the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam in the colour Dark last night – and love the results! The colour has developed overnight into a really nice tan that looks quite natural and streak free.
Before applying this product (after showering and exfoliating), I would recommend to lightly apply moisturiser to elbows, knees and ankles to ensure the tan doesn’t cling to these dry spots. I applied the foam directly on my self-tanning mitt and blend until the coverage was even all over my body. I like to use a mitt to keep my hands clean and I also used the back applicator for the hard to reach areas on my back, I would definitely recommend getting a back applicator to make tanning you back easier.
The instructions say to keep the tan on for six hours however I slept with the tan on so it could develop overnight. If you are sleeping in your tan, I would recommend putting an old sheet over your bedding so it doesn’t ruin your nice clean sheets because unfortunately, it will mark. But don’t panic, it does come out in the wash!
After waking up and showering the excess colour off, I am left with a nice healthy faux glow that looks natural. I am super happy with the results and would use this product regularly for an at home self-tanner.
The only down sight in this product is it does have a fake tan smell, however, I do not know of any fake tanner on the market that does not have this smell. Overall a great fake tan that is easy to apply that I would recommend to anyone!”
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam Light Medium
Jade: “I’m usually very picky with what types of self tan I use (and it’s safe to say I’ve tried them all), but this one surprised me. I’m usually fair but love to be quite dark for that sun-kissed holiday look. This tan not only gave me a warm glow, it looked really natural which is always the winning formula for fake tan! I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t as dark as I wanted, but two coats would definitely do the trick. I recommend this for fair skin girls who don’t want to keep up the high maintenance of when it starts to fade and you end up looking like a crusty bread roll.
Application was easy – I would pick foam over mist or spray any day of the week. It comes out dark, so you can see where you’ve applied it. No streaks and no patchy elbows = winning. The coconut smell won me over too and really gets you in that holiday vibe! Overall I would use this tan again for a beach day or last minute event!”
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion Dark
Taylah: “This product has a definite tint, so it’s easy to see where you’ve applied and make sure you’ve got smooth, even coverage. The formula is super smooth and glides on easily; it just feels like using a moisturiser. I use a mitt to make sure I don’t get any streaking and that my hands don’t end up looking like I just ate a bag of cheezels for the rest of the week.
Before I rinsed off the initial coat, the tan had a bit of a green tint, which was great because I knew it would develop into a nice, deep, olive colour rather turning a nasty shade of orange. The green tinge disappears after showering, leaving a super natural colour.
I sometimes get a little bit of a darker patch around my knees or ankles, so it does have a bit of a tendency to cling to drier spots. I try to pay more attention to exfoliating and moisturising spots like knees the day before I actually put the tan on, to avoid this.
I’m naturally quite pale, but I feel that the ‘Dark’ formula gives me a deep, but still super natural and wearable, colour, and has never transformed into an Oompa-Loompa over night. Also, the almost gel-like product sinks into my skin quite quickly and leaves it feeling soft rather than sticky. And it doesn’t smell Level 10 gross like some other tans I’ve tried, so that’s a huge plus! It still smells like tan, but with a bit of a coconut scent to make it less overpowering.
I’ve found that the bottle lasts for ages – I don’t use it particularly frequently but I’ve applied a bunch of times so far and my bottle is nowhere near empty yet.
I give it a 4/5 — Overall really great, I just wish all fake tans could smell nicer!”
