So it’s nearly Valentines Day… while many ladies are out schmoozing with their significant other, your plans are centered around the only 2 men in your life – Ben & Jerry.
But hey, look on the bright side, at least you can watch take up the whole couch, watching a sappy chick flick without complaints from your significant other. To help you out, we’ve put together our favourite movies to watch as a single lady this Valentines day
Strap yourself in and have snacks on han, because you’re in for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster!
The Notebook
Look, it’s a classic. If you’re planning to cry on your couch while stuffing handfuls of Maltesers into your mouth, you might as well do it while reveling in the sickening romance that is Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook.
10 Things I Hate About You
Undoubtedly one of the greatest pop culture movies from the early 2000’s, 10 Things I Hate About is a must-watch! Enjoy questionable 90’s fashion, that makes-you-weak-at-the-knees Heath Ledger smile and of course, one of the most iconic confessions of love from Julie Styles:
Bridesmaids
If you have never seen Bridesmaids, firstly: where have you been? And Secondly, what do you quote on a day-to-day basis? Rarely a day goes by, where a Bridesmaids quote isn’t used around the office. If you haven’t seen it, watch it immediately.
Romeo & Juliet
Starcrossed lovers, forbidden romance and a whole lot of drama make for the ultimate V-Day movie! Snuggle up on the couch and enjoy as a young Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes fall madly in love only to come to come to an untimely demise.
Disclaimer: R&J may also leave you hoping that a sopping wet Leo will emerge from a nearby pool to declare his love for you (swoon).
Never Been Kissed
If you need to restore your faith in humanity and believe that the “unpopular” and “uncool” girl sometimes gets the guy, this is the movie for you. Featuring a young Drew Barrymore and a whole lot of cringe-worthy high school flashbacks, Never Been Kissed is a must-watch!
He’s Just Not That Into You
Do you have a single friend, who’s been ‘seeing’ a bit of an a**hole? Who was actually supposed to be taking her out tonight but conveniently stopped replying to any of her texts or calls (of which there were many) at about midday yesterday? This movie is the perfect way to subtly drop the hint that perhaps he’s just not that into her…
Mean Girls
You can’t sit with us! So fetch! Grool. Boo, you whore. That is the ugliest effing skirt I have ever seen. On Wednesdays, we wear pink… need I go on?It’s sassy, bitchy and relevant, plus it’s the perfect film to watch alone so you can quote Cadie, Regina, Karen and Gretchen word-for-word as you go.
Dirty Dancing
If you love a classic, this one’s for you. Get caught up in the magic of Baby and Johnny, then book yourself in for a Summer dance course, because hey, there could be a Patrick Swayze out there for you too.
